Snapping Turtles

The snapping turtle is the largest turtle species in Ohio and can weigh more than 55 pounds! This ancient mama evolved over 40 million years ago! Their fossilized remains tell us that their ancestors called earth home 230 million years ago in the Triassic Period, time before the dinosaurs arrived! Snapping turtles can live to be 100 years old!

Before I step foot into the forest, I always place my hand over my heart, close my eyes, and ask my Norse ancestors to show me the medicine that I need.

Stumbling upon this enormous, beautiful snapping turtle in the middle of the forest symbolizes strength, resilience, and the ability to adapt in tough circumstances. The snapping turtle can also represent protection through rebirth and transformation.
